Bollywood King Shahrukh Khan has been ruling the industry for so long that it seems he always had it all — fame, money and success. However, in a recent interaction with around 800 management students, SRK recalled his early days and made some honest confessions about his struggle in life.

"I am really scared of failures. Coming from a lower-middle class family, I saw a lot of failure," said the 47-year-old actor, getting all nostalgic, reported the Hindustan Times. "At a certain juncture of my life, I was thrown out on the road because we could not pay rent. Poverty instills fear, stress and sometimes depression."

"I saw my parents going through it. After I lost my dad at an early age, I equated poverty to failure. I just didn't want to be poor," he added. Shahrukh stressed on the fact that his strained childhood pushed him to make an extra effort in life. "I signed films for the fear of poverty more than creative desire. Most of my initial films were discards of other actors. Deewana[1992] was discarded by an actor called Armaan Kohli, Baazigar [1993] by Salman Khan andDarr [1993] by Aamir Khan. I did them all to avoid unemployment. The time was right — I became a star," he said.

Earlier in an interview with iDiva.com, Shahrukh had said that even though he started out with the purpose of earning, he eventually realised that personal success is not dependant on money. "I was a lower middle-class boy from Delhi when I moved to Mumbai. I had Rs 1,500 in my pocket and wanted to become big enough to earn a lakh. After I began working, I realised there's no end line," he said. "I believe that money has nothing to do with your personal success. On the face of it, I'm the biggest capitalist of all. I have all the riches. I'm the living proof of what stardom should be in material terms. But I've never sold my soul."

By never selling his soul, he meant, "I've not done anything I didn't want to do. I've not done films for money. I'm not saying this with arrogance but I've never asked for a film. At times, I have called up a person if I liked his film but I've never asked for a film."

Clearly, SRK's stardom is not only related to his skills but also his humility. His recent filmChennai Express has broken all records at the box office and he will next be seen in Farah Khan's Happy New Year.

It seemed appropriate that when Shah Rukh Khan was invited to speak on the heavy topic of 'The role of courage in success', he turned up with a white streak in his hair! His speech for the All India Management Association was anything but heavy, though it was wise, and it looked appropriate that he was dispensing life gyaan in greying hair.

Someone finally asked him about that mystifying white streak. "I'm shooting for Happy New Year, for which my hair is dyed. I'm still in the process, and hopefully, everyone will like it," he said. Now we know - SRK ne dhoop mein baal safed nahin kiye hain"

Indian films return to Egypt after 25 years
A still from the movie Chennai Express
Superstar Shah Rukh Khan's blockbuster Chennai Express is all set for a trip to Egypt this October thus marking the return of Bollywood in the country after a gap of 25 years.

The Indian Embassy yesterday announced the return of Indian movies to Egyptian theatres from October this year. United Motion Pictures, facilitated by Gaurang Films and the Indian Embassy in Cairo, will bring to Egyptian audiences their much loved Indian actors and actresses on the big screen.

Chennai Express, starring Shah Rukh and Deepika Padukone will hit Egyptian theatres in Cairo and Alexandria starting October 2.

In the initial run, the movie will run in 8 theatres in Cairo and two theatres in Alexandria, including at all major theatres and multiplexes.

Chennai Express will be followed by other equally big releases such as Krissh 3, starring Hrithik Roshan and Dhoom 3, starring Aamir Khan, this December. All films will carry Arabic subtitles.

Welcoming the development, the Indian Ambassador in Cairo, Navdeep Suri, remarked that no conversation about India in Egypt is complete without a mention of Indian cinema.

"The return of Indian films marks an important step in strengthening people to people ties between the two countries. It is an affirmation of the love and affection that Egyptians, across all walks of life, continue to hold for India. Even when Bollywood did not play at theatres, Egyptians followed the fortunes of their favourite actors and actresses," Suri said.

"I am constantly amazed by the passion with which so many Egyptians follow Indian films - even in places like a small village near Komombo which I visited recently. While the older generation recalls classics like Sangam and Suraj, the younger generation seems to be much more in tune with Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan," he said.

The return of Indian films to Egyptian theatres also takes place as India celebrates 100 years of cinema. The timing of the movie to be released is quite appropriate for Egyptians who will be celebrating Bayram mid-October.

Shah Rukh Khan continues to hold fort at second position as one of the biggest brands in Bollywood, even as his films go on a record breaking express at the box-office.

If there's Amitabh Bachchan, can Shah Rukh Khan be far behind?

The names of Bollywood's two most iconic actors are often taken in the same breath.

According to the survey, 14 per cent feel that Shah Rukh khan has the biggest brand value as an actor after Amitabh Bachchan in Screen Survey 2013.

Instrumental in making Bollywood brand conscious in the late 90s, his audience have no doubt about what makes this one-time television sensation tick on the big screen!

What sets Brand shah Rukh Khan apart from the rest, according to the survey, are qualities like being Articulate (18%), Passionate (16%), Intelligence (10%), Hardworking (9%) and Fitness (8%). He also scores high on Wit (7%) among the actors. They also see a streak of the Maverick (2%) in him.

His audience also recognise in the actor an astute businessman (6%) who is fearless as he dabbles in film production (first Dreams Unlimited, now Red Chillies), runs one of the most successful VFX studios in India, owns a cricket team (Kolkata Knight Riders) in the IPL and has a stake in Kidzania, an indoor theme park.

As much as he's in the spotlight for his various ventures, the actor has also seen biggest failures (Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani, Asoka) and the biggest hits (Om Shanti Om and Chennai Express) in film-making as well as cricket, where his team was derided for poor on-field performance for three seasons till it picked up in the fourth.

Shah Rukh Khan, who's often touted to be the world's biggest movie star (said to be 'more popular than Tom Cruise') revels in being an entertainer.

"Successful people are never able to pinpoint what made them successful," summed up Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan at the 40th National Management Convention organised by the All India Management Association (AIMA) in New Delhi. Khan was speaking on 'The Role of Courage in Success'.

A candid Khan confessed that he wasn't good at giving a discourse on success. "What can I say about success that all of you already don't know," he said. "We don't acquire wisdom from success and that's why it can't be passed on to others. Success just happens."

Indeed, talking about success, Khan asserted, is a waste of time. "Let me tell you honestly that I happened to become what I did because I am very scared. I don't want to succeed as much as I do not want to fail."

The actor kept the audience spellbound by sharing his personal experiences. He came from a lower middle-class family and had seen a lot of hardship, said Khan. " At a young age after my parents died, I equated poverty to failure. I just did not want to be poor. When I got a chance to act in films, it was not out of desire. It was purely out of fear of failure and poverty."

Khan, the master showman, kept his audience entertained. His hour-long session was peppered with songs, dialogues and dance sequences from some of his popular movies.

But Khan also had plenty of advice for everyone. The 'Baadshah' of Bollywood stressed on the need to learn from failures. "Success is not a direct result of action. All of us should experience failure in some measure. If you don't fail you will never succeed. Failure is an amazing teacher."

Failure also helps you find your real friends, said Khan. Hinting at the rivalry between him and other Bollywood stars, Khan said that while he had made no new friends after the success of his latest movie Chennai Express, he had certainly made a few enemies!

On being asked whether he will join politics, Khan replied in the negative. "It's like asking me if I can become an astronaut. No, I can't. I know many south Indian movie stars become politicians but that is because those people understand local politics. It's not a profession that I can turn to at the age of 47."

A relentless worker that he is, Shah Rukh Khan often goes the extra mile to achieve success as he fears losing the top position.

The 47-year-old superstar, whose last release 'Chennai Express' is one of the highest grossers at the box-office till date, said he is constantly working hard to sustain his place in the industry.

"I am scared of losing. I am scared of coming second. I am scared of not making it big. So, I have such a fear of failure that I work harder when even I don't need to. I work longer when I don't have to."

"I never rest on my laurels because I feel that this will be taken away one day. I have this fear that if I don't work hard enough I will lose what I have attained and not be able to continue to do so. I don't have blood pressure neither I am a heart victim but I need to just work hard," he said on the sidelines of 40th National Management Convention by All India Management Association (AIMA).

A star in the industry for two decades, Shah Rukh said that his journey has not been a cakewalk and he did face his share of failures.

But now basking in the success of 'Chennai Express', the actor said he has made many foes in the industry after doing the Rohit Shetty film.

"Failures also gets you to find who your real friends are. The true strength of your relationship gets tested in the phase of strong adversity. I lost lots of friends post 'RA.One', apart from losing a lot of audience too. And after 'Chennai Express', I haven't made any new friends but I have a whole new set of enemies now," he added.

Shah Rukh Khan sported grey streaks at the event which he said is a part of his look for his upcoming Farah Khan directed film "Happy New Year".

The popularity of Raj Kapoor in former Soviet republics notwithstanding, young Uzbeks swear by Shah Rukh Khan when it comes to present-day Bollywood.

"I loved Shah Rukh Khan in 'Don 2' and 'My Name is Khan'. I have watched these films many times," says Bekzod, a guest relation officer at Hotel Miran International here.

"Now I want to see his 'Chennai Express'," Bekzod told PTI.

Bekzod's colleague Ismoil Umarhodjaev also is a Shah Rukh fan.

"I have seen almost all his movies. I love his dialogue delivery style," says Ismoil as he uttered the famous "K-k-Kiran" dialogue from "Darr". He also likes movies of Amitabh Bachchan.
Another Shah Rukh follower is Utkur, a young guide and interpreter.

"He is the real Khan," he says.

Film enthusiasts like them in Uzbekistan get DVDs of Bollywood movies dubbed in the local language. Many shops and households in Uzbekistan carry posters of Bollywood stars.

Akhmadjon Kasimov, who runs a special programme 'Namaste Hindiston' on Yoshlar Radio, has also dubbed for over 300 Bollywood films including "Don 2" and "Ra.One".

Kasimov, who plays five-six songs every episode, says listeners want to know details about actors like Shah Rukh, Amitabh and Hrithik Roshan.

He also gets a lot of requests asking him to help bring Shah Rukh Khan to Uzbekistan.
"There have been a lot of efforts to bring Shah Rukh," says Kasimov.

American director-producer Brett Ratner has expressed a desire to work with Shah Rukh Khan. The director, who is known for films like the Rush Hour series and X-Men: The Last Stand also confessed on Twitter that he is a big fan of the Bollywood badshah.

His post read, "@iamsrk I would love to work with you one day!! Big fan!!!"

Shah Rukh Khan is doing all he can to make sure that lady luck shining on him currently continues to do so with his next film too. If reports are to be believed, the 'Chennai Express' star has already sought to block next year`s Diwali dates for the release of 'Happy New Year'.

If the buzz going around is to be believed, the Farah Khan's next directorial will follow the footsteps of 'Om Shanti Om' and release in the holiday slot. Shah Rukh and Farah come together after a much publicised spat and the anticipation about their next only rises with time. This is Khan's third movie with the choreographer-turned-director and so far they have proven to be a hit making pair.

This year, Eid has indeed proven to be very auspicious for Shah Rukh, and his film 'Chennai Express' has broken all records so far at the Box Office, already raking in more than Rs 200 crores.
However, Salman Khan has booked the dates for Eid next year for 'Kick'. Even though Salman does not have a single release in 2013, and he is doing all he can to retain the propitious occasion for his next release.
Come Christmas 2014, Anurag Kashyap's much awaited 'Bombay Velvet' is set to hit the silver screen. That leaves Diwali for SRK to capture the audience with a bang again.

The film already has seen some delays because of the extensive marketing schedule for 'Chennai Express', and then the dilly-dallying in finalising the lead actress. Katrina Kaif was being considered for the role, but the offer was taken by Deepika Padukone. The shooting is scheduled to begin in early September.

Happy New Year which is also being co produced by King Khan will also see Sonu Sood playing the antagonist in the movie.
