So much attention has been given to the tussle between the makers of OUATIM Dobaara! and Chennai Express that Shahrukh Khan himself has decided to clear the air.

In an interview with Zoom, the actor has gone on record to say that he has nothing personal with anybody and the day for Chennai Express was shifted by a day because Eid also got shifted. He further says that their film had a booking in advance and they wanted it to run for seven days, post which they would share screen space.

He also clarified the clash between the two films saying that it was nothing personal and it's all about business which should be done with all goodness.

Shah Rukh Khan's dialogue, 'Don't underestimate the power of a common man' in Chennai Express, has already caught on with the masses. We hear SRK has agreed to be a part of the Janmashtami celebrations tomorrow at Jambori Maidan, Worli, which is expected to be attended by lakhs of people from all over the state. The annual event — Worli Chi Dahi Handi — is organised by Sachin and Sangeeta Ahir of Shree Sankalp Pratisthan Charitable Trust.

"We've had many celebrities attending our dahi handi in the past, but this time we wanted the ultimate Bollywood Badshah. We were a bit apprehensive while approaching him, but were surprised when he agreed instantly. He knew all about our dahi handi and also about the humongous presence of aam janta that will be there. In fact, he told us that he has been curious to see some of the Govindas and that he keeps hearing about our event or watching it on TV," says Sangeeta.

Will SRK break the dahi handi? "He said, 'leave it to me'. I think he will break the handi, but it is a surprise as of now. He will also be on stage for an hour at least," she adds.

The organisers are planning to welcome him in true Maharashtrian style by blowing a tutari. "We will also try and make him wear a pheta (turban) and give him a sword," says Sangeeta.

Riding high on the success of his latest blockbuster Chennai Express, SRK finally took out some time for rest here Friday. "Dedicated the day for rehab of shoulder, mind and heart. Been pushing all three too hard," Shahrukh posted on Twitter.

Shah Rukh Khan's "Chennai Express" continues its dream run at the domestic box office.

"Chennai Express" surpassed "3 Idiots" record on Friday (23 August) by becoming the biggest grosser of Indian cinema, raking in ₹202.67 crore in the Indian market. The SRK-Deepika Padukone starrer maintained momentum in the third weekend despite new releases.

"Chennai Express" minted ₹2.12 crore on Friday and the collections witnessed an increase on Saturday and Sunday. The third weekend figures have taken the total figures to ₹211.03 crore.

"#ChennaiExpress collected Rs 10.48 cr nett in Weekend 3. Breakup: Fri 2.12 cr, Sat 3.61 cr, Sun 4.75 cr. Grand total: Rs 211.03 cr. ATBB," film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.

The action-comedy entertainer, which has set up new benchmarks in India as well as overseas, has been declared an "all time blockbuster." Director Rohit Shetty has become the most successful director of Hindi cinema with four of his films crossing ₹100 crore mark, including "Chennai Express" which has surpassed ₹200 crore mark.

The success of "Chennai Express", despite mixed reviews, has proved that SRK is the box office king. The actor has four films - "Chennai Express", "Jab Tak Hai Jaan", "Don 2" and "Ra.One" - in the ₹100 crore club. Salman Khan still rules with five films in the elite club.

Now that "Chennai Express" is performing well, SRK will be shifting his focus to his next project - "Happy New Year." The film will be directed by Shah Rukh's good friend Farah Khan, who is once again repeating Deepika Padukone as the female lead. It may be recalled that Deepika's debut film, "Om Shanti Om" was with Shah Rukh and Farah Khan.

Farah is overwhelmed with the response for "Chennai Express." She feels the success of "Chennai Express" will largely help her upcoming film, "Happy New Year", which is produced by SRK.

"I am very happy at the success of 'Chennai Express'. It has broken all records. Shah Rukh is the hero and producer of my film. Now he will come on the sets of my film filled with more energy and hopefully will shell out more money for my film. I am very happy," Farah told reporters last week.

It remains to be seen if the hit pair of SRK-Deepika will prove to be third time lucky with "Happy New Year", which is expected to be released on Diwali next year.

Now that his Chennai Express has safely journeyed the box-office, Shah Rukh Khan is looking forward to savouring some sweet moments at home with his newborn AbRam, before getting headlong into the shooting for his next film Happy New Year next month.

Time tales
Khan — who became dad for the third time in May this year admits that he has hardly got to spend any time with AbRam because of health issues but he shares that the premature infant's health is improving with each passing day.

The new father shares, "I don't spend much time with AbRam. I hardly see him. I am not allowed to see him too much as he has to be infection free for another one month."

AROUND THE HOUSE
SRK, however, adds that he is waiting for the day when the tot will be allowed to roam around freely in the house, as he is still kept under close observation in a sterilised room to avoid infection, "I'd like to roll with him on the ground, yeah that's what I'm really looking forward to, playing with him... Insha'Allah, by next month he should be good to move around in the house. I see him once or twice a day. I will be most relieved when I see him in regular parts of the house though."

MY KIDS, MY FRIENDS
Talking about fatherhood again, he says, "I have always enjoyed fatherhood a lot because I've always had a desire to have friends and now I have three of them. So it's nice. One of them is really small but it's good. We can treat him as we want.

The other two are grown up now and they are my friends. When I went out on Eid with them, I felt so safe, strangely owned and protected by my own. My son and my daughter were standing by my side and I feel very proud of the fact that there is someone to look after me. Though I will make sure and I hope that never happens as a father, I will always take care of them.

But you know that if something is ever needed they are there for their father. They are not over the top with me, that 'you are great' nothing of that sort. But I have enjoyed maximum with them. There is nothing that I enjoy more and I have tasted everything... I have been around. I have seen a lot of life and I really, really feel at the end of it all, the things that I own are my three children. Things that will always own me are my three children.

This, I think, will be forever. I know there is no permanence in a lot of things but this is for keeps and this I really enjoy. I like the innocence, the silliness and then becoming more mature... having conversations with me telling stories every day. My daughter wakes me up at seven when I've slept at five to tell me about her football match, her ballet.

My son has been very angry because I forced him to come out and take photographs in the public (on Eid); and I am trying to work it out with him and we are on a good wicket. We read the namaaz together now and I know as children they have issues of wearing Indian clothes and stuff, but it's fun, I am more excited about getting the namaaz done than the film collections.

So for me the children are the greatest friends and I think there will be no other permanent relationship I will have except with my kids in a strange sense, of course there's wife, sister and friends. But the one that is strangely permanent is children."

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who set new benchmarks in Indian cinema with the use of new technology in Ra.One, says he would love to do Ra.One 2, but that could take time as the country lacks trained technicians.

He says technology and equipment alone aren't enough to make a technologically high-end film.

"We have the latest technology and the equipment, but we lack trained technicians. For Ra.One, we had hired 50 foreign-trained technicians. I would love to work in Ra.One 2, but it's not easy. For a film with a different genre like 'Ra.One', I'll need at least two to three years for preparation," Shah Rukh told IANS in an interview.

Courtesy: Facebook

Courtesy: Facebook

"Ra.One", released in 2011, was an ambitious Rs.150-crore ($30 million) project high on world class VFX. It reportedly had 3,500 VFX shots and Shah Rukh had collaborated with Jeffrey Kleiser, co-founder of US-based Synthesian Studios, to supervise the work done by SRK's Red Chillies VFX team.

Red Chillies VFX, a subdivision of Shah Rukh's motion picture production banner Red Chillies Entertainment, also provides the necessary technology and special effects to other filmmakers in the country.

One of the forthcoming projects his special effects team has worked on is Rakesh Roshan's "Krrish 3″, the trailer of which has already received kudos for its visual imagery and technology-induced action sequences.

"For Rakesh Roshan's film, 'Krrish 3′, the equipment is from our company. We have trained over 200 technicians in the last five years. They are very good, but the vision has to come from Rakesh Roshan. If you have the vision and technology, the technicians can be changed," added Shah Rukh, stressing on the importance of filmmakers thinking beyond what's easy.

The change is already setting in, King Khan felt. It reflected in films like Anurag Kashyap's "Gangs of Wasseypur" and Anurag Basu's Barfi!.

"There have always been all kinds of filmmakers who make films like 'Iron Man', 'Batman' and 'Chak De! India' at the same time. It's always parallel. When I did DDLJ (Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge), there was 'Maya Memsaab' too. There are 'Gangs of Wasseypur' and 'Barfi!', all kinds of films being made. It is good," said Shah Rukh.

His mantra is to reinvent himself by working in different genres.

"I always try to work on a different genre. I feel the industry has given me name, fame and money and I won't ever forgive myself if I won't do anything beneficial for Indian cinema and my fans," he added.

Shah Rukh Khan's Chennai Express has been smashing box office records since its release on August 9. The movie had collected a whopping Rs 67.92 cr in just 2 days of its release and then crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in the opening weekend itself.

Chennai Express is now inching close to the Rs 200 crore mark and has collected over Rs 192 crore.

Tweeting the figures, noted critic Taran Adarsh also wrote, thatChennai Express has surpassed Ranbir Kapoor's Yeh Jawaani Hai Dewaani and has thus become the biggest grosser of 2013 and the third biggest grosser of all times in India.

#ChennaiExpress [Week 2]: Fri 6.50 cr, Sat 8.51 cr, Sun 10.22 cr, Mon 3.80 cr, Tue 7.06 cr. Grand total: Rs 192.85 cr nett. FANTABULOUS!

Meanwhile, Aamir Khan's 3 Idiots continues to top the list at Rs 202 crore.

Even after the release of Ekta Kapoor's Once Upon Ay Time in Mumbai Dobaara starring Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha and Imran Khan, SRK's Chennai Express is still going strong.

Therefore, as the trend suggests, it is only a matter of time thatChennai Express will take over 3 Idiots' record.

Talking about the magnanimous success of the film Shah Rukh Khan said: "I am not saying I know the business 100 per cent but I do know something. Half my life I've kept doing movies and then I think - I want to make movies for the South Indian market but that market can change, taste can change. I want to make movies for critics but critics and their appreciation can change for a certain kind of cinema. And then I make movies because my heart says so."

Gone are the days when Bollywood films running in their silver and golden jubilee weeks would be applauded by critics and fans alike and considered full-blown masterpieces. As the competition to make the cut with the viewers gets intense and collecting Rs 100 crore at the box office emerges as the new benchmark of success for Bollywood projects, the filmmakers have no option but to think of innovative ways to woo the viewers to the cinema halls. Busy deciding strategies to mint hundreds of crores at the box office, filmmakers end up neglecting the script - the vital element of any film.

The phenomenal success of 'Chennai Express' (it has earned Rs.192.85 crore till now) despite its criticism and its ability to dampen the revenue of Ekta Kapoor's 'Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara' is an offshoot of multiple reasons and strategies. Besides releasing 'Chennai Express' in 3,500 screens in the domestic market and 700 screens overseas, the film was dubbed in nine languages, and its ticket rates at the multiplexes were inflated, all helping the film to reach the maximum audience.

Even as the run-of-the-mill movies chalk up Rs 100 crore, is Rs 500 crore a distant possibility?

Filmmaker Nupur Asthana, who roped in Sonam Kapoor for her next directorial venture, feels achieving, believes Rs 500 crore is an achievable target. "Today all kinds of films are being made for various kinds of viewers at varying budgets. As audiences and budgets grow and markets expand, a certain kind of film that appeals to all will make money (that film may or may not be great). And the numbers will definitely rise from 100 to 500 crores in the next few years," she says.

Filmmaker Satish Kaushik understands the indelible impact which Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan leave on the minds of the viewers. Having spent decades in the industry, Satish it is the star power that keeps the industry alive. "The power that SRK and Salman Khan wield over the masses is huge. Our viewers idolize these stars, and it is their desire to watch them over and over again that further strengthens their position as superstars. Kisi bhi bade actor ko lete ho - chaheSalman Khan ho ya Shah Rukh Khan, film paise bana leti hai. I don't think Rs 500 crore is a huge target!"

Actor Farooque Sheikh, who doesn't appreciate the kind of bawdy and unwatchable comedy Bollywood films which are being made today, knows it isn't irrational to aim for Rs 500 crore. "I think the revenue generated has more to do with the nation's economy than the films. People don't mind shelling out Rs 500 for a film which is not a small amount. I mean, there was a time when people would have to pay just Rs 30, but that's irrelevant now," says Farooque.

A MiD DAY reader was turned away from getting a free ticket as advertised by the production company behind SRK's new film. A genuine case of misunderstanding or eyewash?

While Shah Rukh Khan's Chennai Express is hurtling full steam ahead making its way into record books the makers are leaving no stones unturned to promote the film in all possible manner. But what came across our notice yesterday could perhaps cause a slight dent on the hunky-dory picture that the producers are trying to paint of the film's connect with the public.

A MiD DAY reader had queued up at a suburban multiplex in Juhu hoping to bag the deal that has been advertised by the makers across all leading newspapers. But much to his dismay, he was only handed out two tickets. The distraught man told us, "When I demanded my third ticket, I was reprimanded for not announcing it loud and clear at the counter that I had specifically come looking for the offer. Why advertise it if they don't want to stick to their words?"

However, the representatives of the film's co-producers have something else to say, "Yesterday, almost 1.7 lakh free tickets were doled out as per the offer." When HitList tried to avail the same offer on a popular ticket-booking portal, the third 'free' ticket remained elusive here as well..

Users tweet from their phones using SMS or Twitter's mobile website, but Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan has taken it a step further to garner more fans.
Effective Tuesday, any mobile user in India can follow the actor's Twitter account @iamsrk by simply dialing, or giving a missed call, at +919015500555, his company Red Chillies Entertainments Pvt. Ltd said in a statement on Tuesday.
"The experience works for 100% of mobile users in India on any phone, any operator network and is completely free, irrespective of whether they have a Twitter account or data-enabled phone," the company said.
Commenting on the global integration with Twitter India and ZipDial that has made this possible, Khan said in the statement: "I have always believed in the power of technology and use it in various ways to further my connection with my audience. Very soon I hope to also expand this to multiple countries, languages and platforms."
Shah Rukh Khan's latest film, Chennai Express, made Twitter history in India as the first film to be listed in the top trends for more than 10 consecutive days with innovative hashtags and multiple campaigns, the statement said, adding,
"It has also become the first Indian film in twitter history to trend at worldwide no 1 with two separate hashtags #ChennaiExpress and #ChennaiExpressWeekend."
Commenting on the integration, Shailja Gupta, chief digital strategist for Shah Rukh Khan, said that due to demographics, the limited number of data-enabled phones, and the spread of Twitter in India, the following of Khan "don't reflect the absolute popularity". The company's target is to reach 50 million within a year. Khan has 4.7 million followers on Twitter.
