Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan who underwent a shoulder surgery yesterday will have to stay in the hospital for a couple of days and has been asked to take six weeks rest.

Shahrukh Khan finally got his shoulder surgery done at Bandra's Lilavati Hospital yesterday. It's learnt that SRK was suffering from a tear in the rotator cuff muscles in his right shoulder and was operated by orthopaedic surgeon Dr Sanjay Desai. The surgery has been successful and the Baadshah has been advised good amount of rest for a minimum of six weeks before he resumes work.

"Shahrukh had to finish shooting for Chennai Express, so we were managing his injury with medicines since the past three months," said Dr Desai while talking to a tabloid. Desai had conducted the same surgery on the actor's left shoulder in 2009.

From what we hear, King Khan will remain in the hospital for two more days and after that, he will have to keep his arm in a pouch and sling for at least six weeks. And then SRK will have to start some exercises so that his shoulder heals completely.

Doctors who performed the surgery on his right shoulder say he will have to remain in the hospital for two days

Shah Rukh Khan underwent a shoulder surgery at Bandra's Lilavati hospital on Tuesday. The actor, who was suffering from a tear in the rotator cuff muscles in his right shoulder, was operated upon by orthopedic surgeon Dr Sanjay Desai.

The actor was wheeled into the operation theatre at 2pm and the surgery was completed at around 3.30pm. "We were managing his injury with medicines since the past three months as he had to finish shooting for Chennai Express," said Dr Desai who had conducted the same surgery on the actor's left shoulder in 2009.

The procedure is carried out by inserting an anthroscope- a type of endoscope into the joint through a small incision. "He will remain in the hospital for two more days and even after that, he will have to keep his arm in a pouch and sling for at least six weeks. Then he will have to begin the exercises required for his complete recovery," said Dr Desai.

SRK is known to have all his injuries on his left side except for this shoulder injury and an injury to his big toe while shooting for My Name is Khan.

While SRK has always flown abroad for his medical procedures, he preferred to get his shoulders operated here "The surgeries are termed as anthroscopic surgeries and most people prefer flying abroad for these procedures. I am glad that Shah Rukh kept his faith in Indian doctors for this," said Dr Desai.

Shah Rukh's son Aryan came down a couple of days ago to be with his father during the surgery.

What is a rotator cuff tear?
Rotator cuff muscles are a vital group of muscles that ensure swift rotation and movement of the shoulder. A rotator cuff tear is a tear in one of these tendons or muscles. This can leave the patient in extreme pain. According to experts, shoulder movement is highly compromised by such a tear. This kind of tear is mostly common among athletes.

The actor who injured himself while shooting an intense action scene, will undergo surgery today

Shah Rukh Khan, who was scheduled to treat his shoulder injury in London, will check into a suburban hospital today for a much-needed surgery. The actor had injured himself while shooting for some intense action scenes for his upcoming film Chennai Express.

Despite the seriousness of the injury and suggestions from his family and doctors to have it attended to at the earliest, SRK had kept stalling the procedure till the shoot wrapped up.

A source close to the star told TOI, "Shah Rukh is getting admitted today and he will be accompanied by his family members and a handful of friends. His shoulder pain had been worsening but he waited till he was free of all his commitments."

How serious is the injury? The source said: "He may appear on television as someone who is always on his feet - dancing and entertaining everyone. But the truth is, every morning he wakes up with an excruciating pain and is unable to move his shoulders till a massage loosens up the muscles. Despite the debilitating pain, he shot an intense action scene in Hyderabad for the film."

Conscious of the money and the time riding on him, over the weekend, SRK completed a photo shoot and made an appearance at the IPL finale as well. "For Chennai Express too, only after director Rohit Shetty assured him that the film is a wrap, did he call his doctor."

TOI has learnt that the surgery will be performed by Dr Sanjay Desai. SRK has already requested him and his team of doctors to allow him to go home and rest and not be confined to the hospital bed. "He hates hospitals and wants to go home as soon as possible," added the source.
Here's wishing the actor a speedy recovery.

SRK's history of injuries
On the sets of Darr, SRK fractured three of his ribs while performing a stunt with Anupam Kher. Kher accidentally lifted his leg, hurting SRK's chest in the process.
In 1993, the actor hurt his right toe forcing him to be in bed for several weeks. The same injury troubled him again in 2010 when he was filming My Name is Khan.
In 1994-95, while shooting a running sequence in Koyla, SRK hurt his left knee. He continued to shoot but wrapped a dupatta around the wound. While shooting for Shakti in 2006, SRK suffered a neck injury while performing a stunt. He was operated in the UK for the same by a renowned surgeon.
In 2008, SRK suffered a major injury on his right shoulder. He ignored the pain, but as it worsened in 2010, he had to undergo a minimal invasive surgery.
In 2010, while doing a cameo in Mudassar Aziz's Dulha Mil Gaya, SRK damaged his shoulder which required him to go through a major surgery. In late 2011, SRK was holidaying in Dubai with his family, when he "overdid the fights and hurt his ribs." The actor had no choice but to stay indoors and play videogames.

Shah Rukh Khan: Learnt how to lose but not become losers from IPL
Shah Rukh Khan's team Kolkata Knight Riders won the IPL last year.
Admitting that he takes Kolkata Knight Riders' defeats "personally", superstar Shah Rukh Khan on Sunday stressed that the Indian Premier League(IPL) matches have been a learning experience for him and his children.

"I got to learn a lot (from IPL)...to learn how to lose but not become losers. My children have also learnt a lot.

"They haven't learnt that much from my profession. But this completely uncontrolled, unbridled excitement, ups and downs and not knowing what's happening has taught them to be better people. So I thank IPL," Shah Rukh told a TV channel while promoting his forthcoming release Chennai Express.

Conceding to missing most of his team's matches in the series, he said he has to juggle with the entertainment aspect in both cricket and films.

"I couldn't come (to Eden Gardens). I was shooting my film and am injured too...I wanted to complete the movie.. I had a choice though. People would have been happy anyway watching the league matches, whether I am present or absent.

"Or if my film comes out, people will be happy watching it too. I have to balance it out between cricket's entertainment and film's entertainment," said Shah Rukh, whose Chennai Express comes out on August 8.

The Bollywood baadshah admitted feeling "really sad" when his team, KKR, does not perform to expectations.

"I missed all the matches...specially we didn't make it to the play offs. We are the defending champions. When my team was not doing well, I feel really sad. I take it personally in terms of my emotions...in terms of my children because I feel their life's learnings are through this IPL," he said.

Of the 16 IPL matches KKR played, the team won six and lost 10, thereby ruining its chances of qualifying for the play-offs this season.

Eden Gardens hosted the final of the sixth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) between two-time champions Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians on Sunday.

Shah Rukh Khan gave Sanjay Leela Bhansali a pleasant suprise when he landed up on the sets of 'Ram Leela'. The Bollywood superstar wasapparently there to discuss the dates of their common heroine, Deepika Padukone. SRK couldn't help but admire the ostentatious sets put up by his 'Devdas' maker. His quick-wit at hand, the actor apparently told SLB that he has made a fabulous set. And he also asked him if he was trying to outdo the iconic sheesh mahal set ofDevdas that had stood for years on end at the same studio in Mumbai.

Sanjay loved the compliment, but he also warned SRK not to talk about his Ram Leela set. Apparently, everything around it is kept hush-hush. In fact, those who want to get an aerial view of the edifice from outside cannot do so because it remains covered when they're not shooting.

Producer Ratan Jain currently has no plans for "Baazigar" sequel, but says he may do it after couple of years, but not without Shah Rukh Khan.

"Yes, I am contemplating with the idea of the sequel to 'Baazigar', but not right now. I am busy with my other projects. May be three to four years down the line, I will make a sequel to 'Baazigar'," Jain, whose brother Ganesh Jain had produced the crime thriller, told IANS.

"However, I will not make the sequel without Shah Rulh. So let's see how things fall in place. It's too early to comment on anything at this point of time," he added.

"Baazigar", the 1993 blockbuster, was Shah Rukh's first blockbuster. Directed by Abbas-Mustan, the film introduced Shah Rukh and Kajol's pair on the screen as well as introduced Shilpa Shettyin filmdom.

Meanwhile, Jain is set to roll out the sequel to "Dhadkan" with a fresh star cast. The 2000 hit love triangle had Suniel Shetty, Akshay Kumar and Shilpa Shetty.

"The film is in its scripting stage. It will be a fresh film and not a continuation. We won't repeat the same star cast. It will have a new star cast," said Jain.

Contrary to reports in a section of the press claiming that Shah Rukh Khan danced for Kamal Haasan at a party thrown in Chennai in honour of the former on Sunday night, Shah Rukh danced for the entire congregation of who's who from the Tamil film industry at the party hosted in his honour at the Hyatt in Chennai.

And he danced drenched from head to toe. Says Kamal Haasan, "He danced wonderfully on stage and it looked like he had come out of the bath and forgotten to dry."

The truth about SRK's wet and wild look that Sunday evening was a little less romantic and far scarier. The air conditioning at the posh luxury hotel had conked off leaving SRK swathed in sweat.

Says Kamal, "It was every celebrity-bash's worst nightmare come true. The air conditioning at the hotel broke down. We were all left seething and simmering in the heat, helpless, angry and bitter. Shah Rukh was fully and formally dressed in a suit for the occasion. His condition in the heat was indescribable. But look at this entertainer! He pulled off his coat, jumped on to the stage and danced, although he dripped sweat like he had just had a bath."

Shah Rukh, we are told, was pretty much completely drained out and on the verge of dehydration after his sweat-soaked performance. "But he didn't care. At that moment he forgot all his discomfort. It was just Shah Rukh Saab (that's what Kamal Haasan calls his junior colleague) and the stage. He is a natural-born entertainer," says Kamal Haasan.

Kamal Haasan and Shah Rukh share a mutual admiration society from the time they worked together inHey Ram 2000. Shah Rukh had refused to charge any money for the film claiming that the honour of working with the great Kamal Haasan was reward enough. Says Kamal Haasan appreciatively, "Shah Rukh is a true Pathan. A man of his words. I owe him a big favour."

SRK a superstar sans stardom, says Chennai Express co-star
Shah Rukh Khan's next movie is Chennai Express
He may be a superstar to the world, but for his co-stars Shah Rukh Khan is just a caring and friendly person, says Mohan Raman who worked with SRK in upcoming film Chennai Express. (Read: Looking for SRK? Get on board Chennai Express)

"He (Shah Rukh Khan) is very friendly to his co-stars. He ensures that everybody around him is well looked after. He never makes you feel that he bears the superstar title and, therefore, you feel more comfortable around him," Mohan told IANS.

"The only superstar thing about him is that he would mostly be accompanied by his entourage, which is for his own safety. Otherwise, it was a pleasure working with him. I even clicked a picture with him to keep it as a memorabilia," he added.

Mohan Raman will be seen in an important role in the film, which is being directed by Rohit Shetty. It also features Deepika Padukone, Manorama, Sathyaraj and Priyamani.

How was it working with SRK as an actor?

"He would personally help us with lines, whenever needed. A thorough professional on the sets, he is very serious about his work. He spends a lot of time going through his lines and rehearsing to perfect them before enacting them," Raman said.

Known for working in a host of Tamil films and television serials, Raman has also worked in Hindi filmSabse Bada Khiladi.
