Superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who caught the historic India-Pakistan World
Cup semifinal with his friends at his residence Mannat, said India was
going to win the final as well.

King Khan is going to watch Saturday's India-Sri Lanka final at
Wankhade Stadium with his children.

"We will win the final also. I have bought an extra T-Shirt for
that... so I have to go there and watch the final Inshallah! The kids
want to go and see," Shah Rukh told reporters at Mannat.

In the high-voltage match, master-blaster Sachin Tendulkar missed his
100th international century by 15 runs.

The actor, sporting a Team India T-shirt with denim jeans, said such
great players shouldn't be put under pressure.

"Sachin is the peg for the team and I think 85 is a great score. You
know, for Sachin Tendulkar you needn't worry if he misses century
once. I think we shouldn't put such pressure on him. He doesn't come
under any pressure because he is used to it," he said.

Shah Rukh was watching the match with Karan Johar, Farhan Akhtar,
Sussanne Roshan, Karishma Kappor, Sanjay Kapoor, Raveena Tandon, Arjun
Rampal, Prateik Babbar, Chunky Pandey, among others.

SRK won't follow Karan

So what if Karan Johar made his biggest campus hit Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
with Shah Rukh Khan? SRK doesn't want to follow his buddy's success
formula in his own campus flick Always Kabhi Kabhi.
"Instead of creating a make-believe fun and frolic-filled campus, Shah
Rukh has kept the setting of his film believable," says a crewmember,
adding "He knows that times have changed and audience today is much
more demanding than before."

Substantiating this, Roshan Abbas says, "Yes, the setting is certainly
not Riverdale High. We are telling a high school story, but nobody's
trying to be overtly cool here. We're very believable in our
aesthetics."

Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan wants to make his children proud with his upcoming film Ra.One.

"Ra.One is a very special film I made for my kids. I hope I can make my children proud and this country proud. I am trying my best to make it a very good film," Khan said.

Directed by Anubhav Sinha, Ra.One is a Sci-Fi flick which stars Khan, Arjun Rampal and Kareena Kapoor, who plays the love interest of Khan, and will be released on October 26.

Khan has two children, 14-year-old son Aryan and 11-year-old daughter Suhana, from wife Gauri.

"It is a kind of film, a genre that we haven't tried. You make a film with passion and love. You want to make it right and want the world to watch it," Khan said.

The 45-year-old actor also said he was inspired by Hollywood actor Hugh Jackman to make this superhero film.

"I watched all the X-Men movies. The role of Wolverine was the biggest inspiration for me to make Ra.One. I was completely inspired by Hugh's film," he said.

French filmmaker Alain Andre, who is making a flick on alleged serial killer Charles Sobhraj, says he wants to cast Shah Rukh Khan in the film's lead role.

"We were sure we wanted Shah Rukh Khan ... We think he is the best person to portray Sobhraj," says Andre, who says Sobhraj gave him exclusive rights for a biopic.

"Just before Charles got free from Delhi's Tihar jail, Chantal (his first wife) asked us (Andre and partner Francois) to make a movie," says the filmmaker. "Charles wanted to be famous, to see his stories in books and novels, which is why he never said 'no, I'm innocent','' he adds. The director is now looking for a co-producer from Bollywood to make the film, which he plans to set in India, where Sobhraj spent his years.

Andre says that Sobhraj has demanded that he should not be shown as a killer in the movie.

Sobhraj's lawyer Isabelle Coutant Peyre says, "I have asked Mr André to finalise a movie project about the life of Charles Sobhraj, with my total control on the contents on his behalf."

The occasion was the closing ceremony of FICCI FRAMES 2011, which brought Bollywood's Shah Rukh Khan and Hollywood's Hugh Jackman together on the same platform.

Though SRK's fan following is unmatchable, the Baadshah of Bollywood is a self confessed fan of Wolverine star Hugh Jackman. Talking about Hugh, SRK said, "I have seen a lot of Hugh's films and also his work on TV. I loved Wolverine the most and during our discussion just a while back, Hugh offered me to be part of the next X-Men installment. I told him I am in. I would definitely love to do X-Men with him.

Just as SRK made that revelation, Hugh jumped in and said, "Well, Oh! I just asked you to finance the film." This was just one of the many light-hearted moments that electrified the crowd present at FICCI. Both the stars were a treat with their quick wit and amazing sense of humour. Though the two were just joking about the next X-Men film, we hope SRK and Hugh give the idea of working together a serious thought!

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan says his upcoming sci-fi superhero film 'RA.One' is an attempt to create something that will change the genre of Indian films.

'It's an indigenously made film and it's made in VFX studios in India and is trying to create something which will change the genre of films. If Indian filmmakers would like to make something alike, they have the access to the technology,' King Khan told reporters at FICCI-Frames Friday.

He also said that the film would be his first step in paying back to the audiences the love and honour he has received in the last 20 years of his career.

'I have made one promise to every one in India. I have been working for 20 years and I have been given too much; much more than I deserve as an actor, as a star, and I think it's time to give back some,' the superstar said.

'RA.One' is scheduled to release at Diwali time but the star has already started its marketing so that the superhero character sinks into the psyche of his audience.

'I just thought that we don't have any background of a superhero in terms of comics like 'Spiderman'. We have superheroes like 'Krrish' and 'Drona' but they are film superheroes.

'I tell people this is the one who's gonna do... he is going to fly, he has these powers and once this becomes known, then people would like to come and see the film... I just thought to market a year before, hope it pays off,' Shah Rukh said.

He is one of Britain's top movie producers, a BAFTA award winner and an Academy Award nominee but Duncan Kenworthy, who is excited about his latest outing, The Eagle hitting the Indian screens on Friday (March 25), reveals he is a follower of Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan's actin
g skills.

"I am an admirer of Shah Rukh Khan. I've met him a few times in England. He and I talk about would it be interesting to work together. We haven't done anything about it but may be in future you never know," he says before adding: "I am also a great admirer of Aamir Khan. It was through his film Lagaan that he broke through in the UK and really made me think differently about Bollywood films. I admire his career - the way he has handled his career and not just become an actor for hire. Aamir has managed to combine producing and staying as a film star and has that range which is impressive."

SRKKnown for presenting British romcoms like Notting Hill, Four Weddings and a Funeral and Love Actually that grossed grossed nearly $900 million at the worldwide boxoffice, Kenworthy, as of now, is keeping on his toes for his period drama The Eagle. He, however, warns about Indian audience's expectations from the movie.

"If people go to see thinking of it as Gladiator, they might be disappointed because it isn't an action film in that sense. It isn't an action film like 300 too which is all about stylish fighting. It's a drama and more of an adventure film," says the veteran, who was in India recently and travelled to Rajasthan and Mumbai.

"It's a journey and sort of a buddy quest adventure about two guys in the north of Scotland. And it's about loyalty and trust and friendship and patriotism. The lead characters are two people from different cultures who don't understand each other and who see the world in different ways, and who must move beyond that to see each other as human beings," adds the producer, who is glad the movie will release here in four languages.

"I'm delighted that it will be available to people not just in English but also in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. From the west point of time, there is more and more interest to communicate with people everywhere particularly in India and China," he says.

Ask him about his transition to the period genre, he says: "The connection between those romantic movies and this period movie is simply my taste. There is no sort of career decision, it just happened because I love them both. I'm a creative producer rather than a financial producer."

And the producer says he was glad with the way his epic shaped up. "It came up brilliantly. Both Kevin McDonald (the director) and I were very determined that the movie should be as authentic and accurate as possible.  We made all the costumes from the scratch and doubled the budget of the costume department in the process. Likewise the production designer made a Roman Fort which uses the same techniques as the Romans did," he says.

Prod him about the delayed release in the country and he says: "In our film, there's a six week gap between the US and India release. It was only to choose a more competitive weekend."

The veteran was also all praises for Bollywood outings. "They are very well made. They are very slick. They want to engage you on an emotional level which is at the heart of all the Bollwood movies. I am an admirer," he says.

So has he seen any Bollywood venture? "About time we did a celebration of Bollywood films five year ago when I was chairman of the BAFTA. I've seen some films. I saw Karan Johar's Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham," he reveals.

Not many know that Kenworthy's brush with Bollywood is not new. He cast seasoned actor Om Puri in his 2011 movie The Parole Officer. "Om is the loveliest man in the world. He is one of those wonderful men in the world you don't meet often. I had a great time working with him (in The Parole Officer)," he says.

Internationally known Indian filmmaker Shekhar Kapur is impressed with the first look of Shah Rukh Khan's next home production, sci-fi superhero film 'Ra.One'. He says the trailer is a glimpse into the improving visual effects technology in India.

'Shah Rukh's 'Ra.One' has raised bar on VFX tech in Indian cinema judging from trailers. Hope other filmmakers catch up,' Kapur posted on his Twitter page.

The 30-second teaser of the movie was released on ESPN during the India-Australia World Cup Match Thursday.

Shah Rukh, who plays the 'only protector' from evil powers, in the film looks quite a superhero as he jumps, glides, runs and performs stunts – reminiscent of Hollywood's famous 'Spiderman'!

Zipping and zooming in the air in between two fast moving trains, falling free from skyscrapers, jumping forcefully on to the ground, leaving it in tatters, defying gravity and rolling up a building, and raising cars in the air, with what seem like his supernatural powers – Shah Rukh doesn't give a chance to blink your eyes off the invigorating teaser.

His intense side as 'G.One', the protector, also goes in for a soft change for a split second in the teaser, when a woman, perhaps leading lady Kareena Kapoor, touches his face tenderly.

Going by the teaser, 'Ra.One' is nothing like what Bollywood cinema has probably seen before. However, it does infuse a sense of deja vu as a bit of the flying and unrealistic action sequences were noticed in Rakesh Roshan's 'Krrish', featuring Hrithik Roshan and Rajnikanth-starrer 'Robot'. But King Khan's attempt at being a superhero, definitely seems several notches above the rest.

The movie, set for a Diwali release, also features Arjun Rampal who is not seen in the trailer.

Teaser of Bollywood Badshah Sharukh Khan's most anticipated 'Ra.One' is out and it looks terrific.

People are asking why so early as 'Ra.One' – the one of its kind superhero adventure is a Diwali bonanaza and the teasers are already out…..

Not to worry as the master of B-town promotions Shahrukh Khan explains his strategy for his most ambitious film 'Ra.One' and feels that it is important for such genre of films to start an early promotion, he explains, "I think it is important for this genre. When we go to see a Spiderman film, we know who he is, and what his powers are. Likewise with Superman and Batman. I want G.One (the protagonist) to become someone you start recognizing before you come to see the film. We want to start telling the audiences that he flies, is made up of electricity and wears a blue suit. I would like kids to ask, 'How high can he fly, and how hard can he hit?' By the time the film comes, those questions should've been answered."

That's very interesting so be prepared as SRK has surprise in store regarding his 'Ra.One' and we also come to know that King Khan's apple of the eye Aryan has had his say in his papa's major VFX adventure hmmm that's why the teaser has an international cut and edge.

Shares SRK, "He has got a lot of issues because the VFX is still to be done. When he sees it, he points out unfinished things. I have shown it to his friends. They kind of like it. The only thing is, it is not so advanced as Batman because of the paucity of the funds. It is much less than that. But the VFX is as clean as you see in a west film. And it's entirely done in India. When people see the film I want them to ask, 'Arre kahan kiya yeh.' And someone will say, 'Yahaan Andheri mein.'

When quipped about the title as Shahrukh Khan is called as G.One in the film and Ra.One is actually the name of the villain played by Arjun Rampal, SRK gives a spontaneous smart one by saying, "I will call the sequel G.One."

When asked to elaborate King Khan explains, "I liked the idea behind why it is called Ra.One. When you write a computer program, you write Random Access Version 1. So the reason behind it is very cool, even though a film had come by the same name. All my friends said that Raavan came and went, and that I should change my title. They said I am making a big mistake." (Laughs)

Well going by the teasers, it certainly gives an impression that Bollywood Badshah Shahrukh Khan should have the last laugh this year and will certainly keep the throne and the crown of his supremacy in B-town intact.

Mumbai, March 24 (IANS) Filmmaker Karan Johar, who has delivered his biggest blockbusters with Bollywood badshah Shah Rukh Khan, wants to battle the superstar phenomenon and says young talent needs to be empowered.

'It's the age of the youth. It's the age of young talent - directorial, acting and even production houses are going on that path now. We have such few superstars that we need to empower the youth...in every sphere... because we can't keep making movies with the same eight-10 people that we have been doing work with. We need that eight to become 80 for us to be empowered,' Johar said in an interview with select journalists.

The filmmaker has worked with Shah Rukh in all his directorial ventures -- 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham', 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna' and 'My Name Is Khan'.

But he has been providing a platform to new directors by allowing them to make films under his banner Dharma Production. Amongst the freshers he has roped in are Tarun Mansukhani ('Dostana'), Ayan Mukherjee ('Wake Up! Sid') and Rensil D'Silva ('Kurbaan').

Last year, his banner released three films and two of them - 'I Hate Luv Stories' and 'We Are Family' - were again directed by first timers Punit Malhotra and Siddharth Malhotra respectively. The third one was 'My Name Is Khan'.

'I'm actually quite inspired by Yash Raj Films who did a tremendous thing by launching a film like 'Band Bajaa Baraat'. We saw Vikramaditya Motwane's success with 'Udaan'. We need many more 'Band Bajaa Baraat' and many more 'Udaan' to combat the superstar phenomenon,' said Johar, 38.

But isn't Bollywood known for its stars? Then why combat it?

'I'm part of that process. We created stars and I work with superstars, but we can't make an industry out of just five people, we need 50. That's what I'm trying to say,' he explained.

'We need many more superstars in an industry, which is so large. We are grateful and thankful that we have talents like Aamir (Khan), Salman (Khan), Hrithik (Roshan) - they are geniuses, brilliant and absolutely the masters of their game. But if we have many more masters then our game just improves,' he added.

He was speaking on the sidelines of the three-day FICCI-Frames conclave, an annual media and entertainment industry event that kicked off here Wednesday.

According to a report released at the conclave here, the Indian media and entertainment industry registered an 11 percent growth in 2010 to touch Rs.652 billion ($14 billion). But the year was a challenging one for the film industry.

With better content, an increase in multiplexes, investment in research and continued cost corrections, the industry was estimated to grow from Rs.83 billion to Rs.132 billion by 2015, said the report prepared jointly by FICCI and global consultancy KPMG.

Johar, also co-chairman of the FICCI entertainment committee, feels the $2 billion Indian film industry needs support from government to solve problems that the industry is facing.'

'The film industry is something that needs to be acknowledged on a larger industry level when it comes to Indian policies that are made, whether it's in the budget or otherwise. I believe that we definitely need that focus from the higher authorities to give us that support. We provide tremendous entertainment and now we need the support of people in the political world to help us go through turbulent times,' said the director.

Specifying the problems that have dogged the industry, Johar said: 'We have many problems, piracy is an issue, now copyright is also an issue that needs to be addressed from our perspective very strongly. There are many other things in the world of digital technology.'

Following our story on September 28, 2010, about SRK in Yash Chopra's next directorial venture, the industry was abuzz with speculations over the actress that would make the cut.

All rumours can be put to rest now. For the first time in her eight-year acting career, Katrina Kaif, will star opposite SRK in the YRF project.

A source close to YRF says, "Katrina was the first choice for the heroine's role in Yashji's film. She immediately said 'yes' to the film. She has loved the script and is looking forward to working with Yashji. She will play Shah Rukh's romantic interest."

Talking about the film's storyline, the source reveals, "Obviously, the film will be a love story. Yashji is a master of romance. There is no reason why he will not generate and extract great chemistry between Shah Rukh and Katrina."

Since the production house has witnessed some turmoil in the recent past, YRF is depending on the success of this project. When asked if SRK and Katrina feel secure about this endeavour, the source says, "Shah Rukh and Katrina have very good relations with Yashji and Aditya. They have equal faith in both of them. They are like family to them."

Considering, the last film that SRK did with Yash Chopra (Veer Zaara, 2004) was a success, here's hoping that all works out well for YRF.

Shah Rukh Khan starrer 'My Name is Khan' has yet not exhausted exploring every possible market across the globe and its distributor, Fox Star Studios, said Wednesday the film will be opening this weekend in South Korea.

'Recently a new market has opened up in South Korea and we are releasing the film there this weekend with 300 prints,' Vijay Singh, chief executive officer of Fox Star Studios revealed at the FICCI-Frames conference here Wednesday.

Directed by Karan Johar 'My Name is Khan' revolves around Rizwan Khan (Shah Rukh), a Muslim from Mumbai who suffers from Asperger syndrome, a form of autism.

Rizwan marries a Hindu single mother Mandira (Kajol) in San Francisco. But post 9/11, Rizwan is detained by authorities at the Los Angeles International Airport, mistaking his disability for 'suspicious' behaviour.

Released last year Feb 12, 'My Name is Khan' boasts to be the highest grossing Bollywood film overseas.

'It has earned a staggering $23 million overseas till now,' said Singh.

SRK and director Anubhav Sinha take advantage of the current cricket craze to develop a sustained seven month promotional plan for the film, until its release

Even though the film is still at least seven months away from its release, SRK is keen to have a sustained promotional plan.

The next step in his marketing strategy is to release the full teaser during the India vs. Australia match. If India makes it to the finals then yet another teaser will be featured.

Taking complete advantage of the country's most loved sport, SRK is using the IPL season as another platform to promote RA.One.

Anubhav Sinha, the director of the film said, "Yes it is true, we will be rele
asing the teaser of the first look today. Day after that, we will be releasing the full teaser.

SRK and I discussed the idea of releasing the trailer during the World cup came in. We have been excited about the promo for the last three months and we thought that we should share it with the world."

When asked why they have taken this unconventional seven month promotional plan, he tells us, "We want the audience to be familiar with the film and the action sequences. The film has lot of extra elements that we need to bring out.

The idea is to start off now and start giving out information about the film and let's hope it all works out."

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who has collected the maximum number of Best Actor awards for My Name is Khan this year, has no reservations about being given the Golden Kela award for Worst Actor for the same film.

"I think they did not have my address to officially invite me for this award. But, I want to ask these people as to why they are copying the Hollywood concept of giving away the Razzies. Why can't they come up with something original?" SRK quipped.

The actor has a very philosophical take on various awards conferred on him. "There are people who praise you endlessly while there are people who are ready to rob you off those praises.

These people think that may be you were not as fantastic. I feel that the truth is somewhere in the middle, you can't take either too seriously," he said, speaking on the sidelines of the recent India Today Conclave in the Capital. "As a public figure you have to live with it. It is normal to have the darker side attached to your image. Besides, public perception is always varied."

SRK, who was till recently seen sporting the Rasta hairstyle, which he had acquired for his forthcoming film Don 2, has gone back to his original short crop. "It's very difficult to maintain long hair," he said. "The 'Rasta look' idea was developed by my hairstylists Dilshad and Adhuna Akhtar, wife of Farhan Akhtar who is directing Don 2.

In the first half of Don 2, where my character is shown to have spent a long time in jail, I had to sport long hair. I have tried various looks in films such as spikes, the Japanese look and now the Rasta look," he adds. Dismissing the buzz about Shakira making an appearance in the Kolkata Knight Riders music video for the forthcoming season of IPL, he said: "There is hardly any time left for me and Shakira to shoot together. I don't think it is happening."

Regarding his much talkedabout mafia flick Xtreme City, directed by Paul Schrader and co-produced by Martin Scorsese, there has been the buzz that Leonardo De Caprio could be doing a cameo in the film. "We are working on this film. I think the news about such projects become too big instantly. Paul is still conceptualising the film and it is not decided as to what role would be offered to Leonardo and if he chooses to be a part of the film."

Shah Rukh is known as the ultimate romantic icon in Hindi films thanks to blockbusters such as Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gam. But in his forthcoming releases, Ra One and Don 2, he has been cast as a superhero and an antihero respectively.

"I hate love stories. I don't think I have ever been a romantic hero in the real sense. The nineties was a period of love stories, but these were not pure love stories. Most of these films were family films with lovable characters. It's not that I am going away from any set image. I have been recently offered a romantic film by Yash Raj," he added.

This takes us to another muchtalked about film - Vishal Bhardwaj's adaptation of Chetan Bhagat's novel 2 States.

"Vishal and I had a few meetings and he is right now working on the adaptation. We will finalise on how Krish and Ananya, the two lead characters of the story, should look on screen and how my character should be shaped."

So, after Aamir Khan, who at 44 played an engineering student, it is SRK's turn at 46 to play a student. "It's not difficult at all. I was supposed to play one of the students in 3 Idiots. As far as 2 States goes, it's a story of an IIM graduate, so we can have a slightly elderly look," he concluded.

Hugh Jackman and Shah Rukh Khan More Pics
Hollywood superstar Hugh Jackman and Shah Rukh Khan will meet at a film and media conference to be held in Mumbai, for an interaction on the two biggest film industries across the globe.

And if the two hunks on stage are not enough, none other than, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be introducing the Wolverine star on stage.

However, it all wouldn't have been possible without Karan Johar. "It was Fox Star and Karan who were instrumental in bringing Hugh to Mumbai," reveals a source. "Jackman will be coming down on 24th night and will be attending the closing ceremony of the conference on the 25th.

He will talk about cinema and the closing gap between Hollywood and Bollywood along with KJo and SRK.

Shah Rukh will be the only star interacting with Jackman. It is still unknown if SRK or Karan will host a party for him to meet the other B-town celebrities later," adds the source.

When contacted, Vijay Singh, CEO of Fox Star India confirmed, saying, "We planned to bring a big Hollywood celebrity and Hugh is right up there.

He was our first choice and everything fell into place. We are delighted to have Hugh coming down.

He is going to attend the closing session of the conference. Karan will be in conversation with Hugh and Shah Rukh Khan.

It will be a wonderful platform due to the presence of two of the best from their respective industries."

Her canvases speak of myriad hues. From painting women, who are a blend of the east and west, to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and a host of other celebrities, to cause-based works of art, Anjanna Kuthiala's repertoire of work spans a gamut of paintings. The Delhi-based writer and painter, who transitioned from being a homemaker to a well-known artist, brings to Bangalore a body of work that boasts of incorporating the city's inherent character in each of her 20 frames.

"Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore have always been closest to my heart. Delhi is where my career took off, Mumbai was where I showcased a series of 20 paintings depicting Shah Rukh's various avatars and Bangalore, because the city's greenery and beauty inspires the artist in me," says Kuthiala. A former Miss India winner, her art works have found place on walls of film personalities, politicians and industrialists among others. But among all her works, it is her work on Shah Rukh that holds a special place in her heart.

"There are thousands of artists in the country. But somehow I was destined to capture Shah Rukh in my paintings. He was so benevolent and gave me complete access to himself," she says of her SRK exhibition in 2005, titled A Poem of Art in Cinema.

"People were surprised that he never demanded a royalty or fee or anything, to be a part of the exhibition. All he asked was 'make me look like a man'," laughs Kuthiala, explaining Shahrukh Khan's apprehension, because of her women-based art works. "Women have always been an emotional anchor in my life and I love to paint them in different forms," she adds.

Her show at Bangalore, titled A Tribute To Bangalore On Canvas, is a mix of frames that capture the city's inherent characteristics.

For Bangalore's exhibit, she is poised to showcase the city in all its glory. A hub of the IT and wellness industries, the city where pub culture began, the starting point of Save The Girl Child campaign, to being a golfer's paradise, are themes which have found their way into her paintings. "Through my exhibit, I want to give Bangalore its due. It was here that people first began going to pubs, the quality of spas and medical facilities here, are terrific, the campaign for the girl child took off here and no other city offers great golf courses that Bangalore does," she laughs, adding that one of her work is a tribute to this craze. The artist, who has over the years visited the city, however maintains that Bangalore still retains its old charm, a fact that most Bangaloreans lament as a loss.

"Though Bangalore has grown in leaps and bounds over the last couple of years, it has still managed to keep intact its inherent culture, its trademark qualities, as compared to other growing metros in the country. The city combines the best of both worlds," she remarks, adding that her paintings aim to capture this very unique paradox.

A Tribute to Bangalore On Canvas will be on at the Art Corridor, Taj West End, from March 27-April 2.

A superstar fills his need for several selves as he shifts personalities in a jiffy at Delhi meet

To know why Shah Rukh Khan is a superstar, all you have to do is rent Dulha Mil Gaya (Trinidad, Fardeen Khan, enough said). His 15-minute cameo lifts the 2010 movie out of purgatory and gives it one of the most romantic gestures in Bollywood history, a middle-aged millionaire who gets up early so when his girlfriend is awake, he can focus on her. To know what we really want from superstars like Shah Rukh Khan, unfortunately you need the good fortune to see an off-screen performance.

At the recent India Today Conclave, among such enormous crowd-pullers as Sarah Palin and Narendra Modi, there was no question that SRK was still the headliner. With extreme seriousness, he read a lucid speech largely about the business end of Bollywood. No sentimental anecdotes, no stories about his mother or his love for home-cooking—a tune so familiar in celebrity speech that after a while you only see lips moving.

What was intriguing was what came later—a high voltage act of a man who knows that no one really expects him to say anything intelligent, that he would be congratulated for developing a thought. Through the speech and the Q&A session, he calibrated his needle-sharp wit.

He began ironic and self-referential but these gags cracked not a smile out of the well-heeled gathering. When he casually tossed out a few in-law jokes he got the easy guffaws. The weighing of the crowd's expectations was visibly fine-tuned down to what level of vocabulary a Bollywood actor is expected to use without drawing attention to himself as a 'serious' person.

So when SRK used the word 'frisky' to describe himself, a split second later he followed it up with a ingénue's disclaimer—half sly, half-sexy. 'Frisky? Is that the right word?' Marilyn Monroe would have been so proud.

No one expects truth-telling in question-answer sessions of conferences—whether big or small. We all know it is a ritual. But what if someone refuses to play along? For every time that SRK said something banal, such as his children making him happy, there were also plenty of hair-pricking moments when he said almost talking to himself—such as his mood swings making the whole family unhappy. Not a reaction from the crowd. How do you know when you are a superstar? When you tell the truth and people only hear lullabies.

Of course the clown is sad, that is how the story goes. But the session ended with a heart-stopping moment. It was as if the naked emperor—knowing his citizens are all sycophants—announced he has no clothes, he will have no clothes, and he is turning a nudist, damn you.

The final question. An organiser asked, "We are all dying to know. Is there still a six-pack under your shirt?" SRK responded to this familiarity with a practiced revelation of his flat, brown stomach. The crowd roared in approval pretending not to hear what he said as he showed his abs. "This interview can continue if you like. I can show you what a Muslim looks like on the inside."

Who does SRK have more contempt for? Himself or the people who love a cipher? He's never going to tell. As the session broke for tea, the crowd murmured in satisfaction of having been entertained, pigeons convinced the cat had danced for them.

Shah Rukh Khan's superhero fantasy adventure, RA.One, has the rumour mills buzzing overtime. Director Anubhav Sinha admits that he's heard some funny stories but perhaps the most absurd one was that Shah Rukh and his nemesis, Arjun Rampal, share 21 superhero costumes between them, each of wh ich reportedly cost $1 million.

"That would mean that we've spent $ 21 million that's equivalent to Rs 90 crore on these costumes alone. How ridiculous is that!" he scoffs. "Yes, there are 21 costumes and they are expensive. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that they are the most expensive clothes either actor has ever worn. But still, they are not that pricey even if they cost far more than the Armanis and Dolce & Gabbanas that Shah Rukh and Arjun have in their wardrobes."

It's common knowledge by now that both the stars lost a lot of weight to get into the the costumes, which makes them a must-have for those aiming to shed some extra kilos in a hurry. They could even market a line of superhero designer wear. "That's a thought," Anubhav laughs. "Shah Rukh and Arjun lost a lot of weight thanks to these outfits. They are non-porous, and so you tend to sweat a lot. Both my stars had become really skinny even though I didn't realise that initially because I was seeing them everyday. Shah Rukh, poor guy, had to eat double the amount he usually does, to get back to normal."

Did Anubhav ever get into one of these costumes too, you wonder, to cut down on a few inches and ounces? "No way!" he retorts. "Why would I need to wear them? This film has kept me on my toes literally. Just last week, shuttling between three studios where the background score was being recorded, I must have sprinted close to 50 kilometres. I don't even get time to eat, drink or sleep. So I've anyway cut down on the inches and ounces."

However, Anubhav admits that his star-producer had once joked that if the film went on to do a certain percentage of business, they would all wear the superhero costumes and go watch the film together. "And since what Shah Rukh expects is not an impossible dream, you might just see me in those tights some day," he chuckles.

Arjun has admitted that he'd like to keep one of the costumes as a memento. What about Anubhav? "Arjun can keep them all," he says. "I can happily live with my memories."

King Khan held a Holi bash late last evening
PS: It was a colour-free affair

Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan hosted a Holi bash yesterday at their home, Mannat. Held late last evening, it was different as it began at a time when all other Holi parties had ended.

Celebs at Shah Rukh's Holi bash

Says a source, "Having a post-Holi party was Gauri's idea. SRK had been out of town for a long time and a get-together would help him reconnect with friends.

The logic plainly was that Holi parties, though great fun, are too noisy and mess up the garden and house with colours and water."

Another reason was the India-West Indies cricket match in the evening. "SRK and his friends love watching the match together on his huge LCD screen at Mannat."

Adds the source, "Though it was a post-Holi party, guests were served bhaang and jalebi along with a variety of Indian sweets and a lavish dinner. Gauri sent out personal invites."

WHO ATTENDED
The usual suspects: Karan Johar, Hrithik and Sussanne Roshan, Sanjay and Maheep Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor, Rani Mukerji, Aditya Chopra, Chunky and Bhavna Pandey, Kaajal Anand, Rima Jain, Priyanka Chopra, Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao, Farhan and Adhuna Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani, Arjun Rampal and Mehr Jesia.

Do you know what SRK can give his arm and his leg for? Any clues? Ok, give up and read this. The best thing that SRK has done to himself and to his fans is his recent admission to the fact that he loves to be in the thick of limelight. SRK has admitted that the fact that young girls screaming his name at the airports and trying to tear his clothes gives him a high that he cannot forget.

The King of bollywood has confessed that he loves attention. In his words, "I would be lying if I don't admit that I love the attention that stardom has got me. And why not? I have worked hard to get this attention and I love it when I see young girls screaming my name and trying to tear my clothes. All this attention gives me a high that I have worked hard for."

Well, with SRK charming everyone with his candour, it seems King Khan and his entourage of screaming fans are here to stay.

It is the not the typical storytelling of two different people then they fall in love. So you will not get the typical same story you have seen it 100 times it is different yet very relatable because you meet people like that

Shweta Verma and her quiet struggle in B-Town

Shah Rukh Khan's recent New Delhi visit for the wedding of Gauri's cousin Rustom Tiwari to model-actress Shweta Verma has put the nayi dulhan in the spotlight.

Low profile

Few knew about her association to ''Shah Rukh bhaiyya", as she calls him. Says our source. "She doesn't talk about it but those close to her knew.

Shweta Verma with newbie Gautam in Bhindi Bazaar Inc

She kept a low profile even while shooting earlier for Hide And Seek and now for her upcoming Bhindi Bazaar Inc, directed by Ankush Bhatt."

She features in BBI along with Kay Kay Menon, Prashant Narayan, Deepti Naval, Shilpa Shukla and Caterina Lopez (Jennifer Lopez's cousin who has done two item numbers in the film).

Producer Karan Arora states, "Shweta plays the character of Simran, a girl. I have known her for many years as we are family friends. But that isn't why she was cast in the film. She is extremely talented."

Shweta was an airhostess with Emirates Airlines for three years before she quit flying to pursue acting and modelling.

As part of her preparations, she also did an acting course at Anupam Kher's academy and learnt kathak. She has featured in a talcum powder and a women's health drink commercial.

Shah Rukh Khan is leaving no stone unturned for his forthcoming film RA.One. So much so, that the star himself has started doodling the storyboard for the film along with artist Atul Chouthmal.

Khan insisted that Atul was called back after the director Anubhav Sinha got a new storyboard artist from Hollywood.

When contacted, Atul said, "I had already signed the contract with Red Chillies and had worked on the film.

However, they hired a Hollywood artist who had worked on films like Spiderman. He had a different vision and SRK sir was keen on me as he wanted someone from Mumbai.

He thought that someone from the city would know the roads well.

And all this happened even before I met SRK. I was called at Yash Raj Studios where he met me. He then took me to Filmcity in his car where we discussed the work. He had already doodled many sketches and he was very clear on how he wanted to go about the storyboard.

I used to have creative sessions with him before every schedule and then with Anubhav Sinha. The work has really turned out good."

"We used a Spiderman toy to make everyone understand the shot. More than 50 per cent of the crew were foreigners and the storyboard went a long way in explaining things to them. It was an amazing experience working with SRK.

I made a sketch of him and presented it to him. It is now a part of the wall in Mannat," added Atul who has earlier worked in over 20 Bollywood films including Veer, Krazzy 4, Kites, Love Story 2050, 1.40 Ki Last Local and Being Cyrus.

Actor Shah Rukh Khan on Friday said there was no bigger superstar than him and that he wished to be recognised by all age groups, especially the young people.

Khan wowed the audience and kept them in splits throughout his session 'Movies, magic, life -- Making movies work in a brand new decade' at the 10th India Today Conclave in New Delhi.

While agreeing that movies are a way of life for India, Khan said that the film industry needs to learn a few things if it truly wants to go global.

Known for his wit and easy charm, Khan was a different, more serious self as he broke down the issues plaguing the industry.

"We need scientific screenplay writing and the organisation and discipline we see in Hollywood and the science of marketing firms," explained the Om Shanti Om star.

Recounting a meeting with Hollywood actor Will Smith, he said that Smith had shared that he worked in just two films a year, one was to satisfy the actor in himself and the second was to satisfy the urge of working with someone bigger than him.

Khan joked that his problem was that couldn't find a bigger superstar but, on a serious note, he added that the bigger star needs to be visual effects.

Sharing his secret ingredient of making the movies work in a brand new decade, he said that though the Indian film industry had the music, the film and the math (economics), it was missing a symbiotic relationship with Hollywood.

Also tearing into the Indian industry's long-time obsession with crossover films and actors, Khan suggested a ban on the phrase "crossover films" because they just don't exist. "We should instead take Bollywood to the world," he said.

"Mumbai to Melrose, the road is shrinking. Warner Brothers and Sony are making movies here while UTV is doing the same in Hollywood. If you want to do crossover films, then you are barking up the wrong tree because the Indian audience loves the musical dramas," said Khan.

Abiding by his wife Gauri Khan's strict instructions not to make a clown of himself, Khan, instead, thrilled the gathering by flashing them a lightning fast look at his four-pack, if not a full six-pack, abdomen.

On a more sombre note, he also touched upon communal tensions. He explained that the reason the film industry has not fallen prey to such filmmaking is because it makes films that have to please everyone and are acceptable to the whole country.

On politics, Khan added, "Politicians should not come between you and your God." He later diffused the solemn topic by joking that if he were the prime minister, he would probably take a holiday right now to an undisclosed location.

In the end, he aptly described what his epitaph would read. For Khan, who can charm a billion Indian hearts and break them just as easily, his life would read, "Here is Shah Rukh Khan. He tried hard. Very hard."
