The star injured his shoulder further while filming in December

Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan has undergone surgery on his shoulder at a Mumbai hospital for an injury which he suffered during filming last year.

The 43-year-old, popularly known as King Khan, was hurt while acting in the movie Dulha Mil Gaya (I Found my Groom) in December 2008.

Surgeon Sanjay Desai said the star is recovering but will be out of action for "four to six weeks."

Khan is expected to be discharged by the end of the week.

"He is out of anaesthesia and is a bit groggy, but otherwise the situation is under control," Desai, who led a team of doctors operating on Khan, told reporters after the 90-minute operation.

Khan injured his shoulder a while ago, but the condition was aggravated in December.

His surgery had been postponed due to his movie commitments and he underwent physiotherapy sessions.

Doctors said Khan was advised to undergo surgery only because he was keen to do action roles and perform stunts himself.

"If he were to lead a sedentary life, there would be no need of the surgery," the actor's physiotherapist Ali Irani said.

Speaking before he went into hospital, Khan said: "I think when you are working in this kind of field where you have to run, jump and fall, after 20 years it's just natural to get these ailments."

Khan's latest film, Billu, opened in cinemas in India last week.

Mumbai, Feb 17: A day after he underwent the successful surgery on his shoulder, millions let out a sigh of relief as Shah Rukh Khan has been discharged from the Breach Candy Hospital. Greeted by thousands of his fans outside the hospital premises, a recuperating Shah Rukh Khan headed home with his wife Gauri.

Done with all the hustle-bustle surrounding the release of his flick 'Billu', Shah Rukh Khan had undergone the much needed shoulder surgery at the Breach Candy hospital on Monday.

The actor, who had been in severe pain since November, had put the much-recommended surgery on hold for the promotion of his home production 'Billu'. The actor had apparently injured his shoulder badly on the sets of his upcoming venture 'Dulha Mil Gaya'.

Speaking to reporters the actor had said, "I hurt myself and tore a tendon about four years ago. That time it used to hurt when I danced or worked out. Recently, while doing a scene in 'Dulha Mil Gaya', I fell on my shoulder and hurt myself again. Not realising how serious it was, I shot for and completed 'My Name is Khan'. By then the pain was excruciating and the doctor said I must go under the knife within 21 days. Post surgery, my arm will be in a sling for six weeks."

Talking about the reason that delayed the surgery, the spokesperson said, "Shah Rukh needed to finish a few assignments before the surgery. He told us that he could bear pain and has made no special demands from his end".

Orthopadic surgeon Dr Sanjay Desai, who operated on SRK, said in an exclusive byte to Spicezee.com, "A few weeks ago Shah Rukh came to me with complaint of pain. He informed he had had a fall and had torn the rotator cuff muscle of his shoulder, as per previous diagnosis." He further added, "However, he being a dedicated actor, could not undergo the surgery immediately. He said that he has the capacity to bear pain, and he will wait till all his commitments are completed."

Here's wishing King Khan a speedy recovery.

CAVING IN? Actor Shah Rukh Khan has decided to take off the word

The title of Shah Rukh Khan's Billu Barber has upset the salon and hairdressers union. Now with no option left before the release, King Khan has decided to take off the word 'barber' from its publicity posters.

CNN-IBN: It's too late to change the title of the film Billu Barber, but Shah Rukh you're doing everything to not upset anyone?

Shah Rukh Khan: I had a discussion with the association of hair dressers and salons in Maharashtra. And I've pokes to the associations in other cities on the phone. I don't think we were wrong in ever using the word 'barber' and that is what be stand by. But they have their own take on that. The film has been made with a good feeling. So, I'd rather not hurt anyone, because it's not going to affect my film.

CNN-IBN: So what will be your next step since the prints are out and the posters have been put up?

Shah Rukh Khan: We will put a piece of paper on the word 'barber' on the posters and hoardings which belong to the production which is Red Chillies, wherever it can be done. It's a little expensive to try and change the posters which we couldn't have done.

CNN-IBN: The censor cleared your film, so didn't you try to negotiate with these associations? Did you try to make them understand that the term 'barber' isn't a derogatory one?

Shah Rukh Khan: If they understood that they wouldn't have had an issue with it. In this case I was very clear that there is no legality involved and I would just like to make sure that people aren't unhappy. I think I'm also a little mellow since I'm going for my surgery, so I don't want to hurt anyone.

Mumbai: Allegations of plagiarism by writers of Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi thrown out Shah Rukh Khan's television production house Red Chillies Idiot Box's sitcom Ghar Ki Baat Hai, which was aired on January 30 on NDTV Imagine, has won the case filed against them. The petition was filed by Neha Joshi, daughter of Sharad Joshi, who had penned the 1984 comedy show Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi - a serial that was the inspiration in the making of Ghar Ki Baat Hai.

DNA

Shah Rukh Khan had mentioned earlier, "Ghar Ki Baat Hai is a tribute to Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi." The petition filed was against Shah Rukh Khan's company Red Chillies Idiot Box, NDTV Imagine and the Oberois (who produced Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi) for copying the show without prior permission. However, Red Chillies, NDTV and the Oberois have won the case.

Bhavana Sresth, creative director, Ghar Ki Baat Hai, says, "The petition filed by Neha Joshi was irrelevant because the official contract of Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi was with the producers - the Oberois -from whom we had already taken permission, there were no
copyright violations. Hence, the petition has been nullified."
